The Physio Chemical treatment is used for the separation of the colloidal particles as a primary step. Coagulants and flocculants are used to form bigger and bulkier particles in an indefinite stable form so that the particles can settle.

This is being done through various techniques like using dissolved air injected into the water, or the use of settling tanks, or by reducing the vertical distance by increasing the settling capacity, so that the fine particles either float to be skimmed easily or become sediments for removal.
